I joined the team at AFC in June 2022. My roles include cross industry experience in housing, finance, forestry, export, and aviation with over a decade in leadership. In 2016 I moved to arts and culture as a personal assistant to the director of Toitu Museum followed by coordinator of operations. As a person who likes change and variation, I was eager to join AFC and experience a social services environment. With a Bachelor of Applied Management and Post Grd Cert in Counselling, I bring academic and professional experience to my role at AFC. I use this to support the frontline team bringing much needed assistance in helping the most vulnerable in our community.
I was inspired particularly by the values of manaaki, awhina, mahitahi and whanuanga held by the organisation. There's no better way to support each other and our clients by offering these values and the opportunity to move from survival to thriving and creativity.
My work is every day business and admin with an emphasis on fleet management and health and safety. My interactions are an opportunity to play to my strengths of being practical and solution focused. Mixed with this is a desire to bring and share genuine love and kindness. I'm rewarded by the small things like giving and receiving respect and support from others which are intrinsic to AFC values.
I would describe myself as a lifelong learner. I enjoy activities like walking, biking, yoga and gardening. I have a keen interest in art and the creative process. I can often be found reading a book on spirituality and I have a long-term meditation practice. Along with this my hobbies and activities have been around my children being resourced and emotionally supported to thrive, relax and create. I try to walk the talk and be kind along the way. It's all we've got. That's why I chose AFC and have gratitude that AFC chose me too.
